The challenge.

Most of the client's traffic arrived on mobile, but the store had been designed for desktop and adapted afterwards. Pages were slow on mobile networks and the checkout was difficult on a small screen, so mobile visitors converted at a fraction of desktop.

How we worked.

  1. 01

    Mobile analytics review

We separated mobile from desktop behaviour and identified where mobile users specifically dropped out.

  2. 02

    Device & network testing

We tested the existing store on mid-range devices and slower connections rather than only on fast hardware.

  3. 03

    Mobile-first UX

We redesigned the journey for a small screen and one thumb, instead of shrinking the desktop layout.

  4. 04

    Interface design

We designed larger targets, simpler navigation and a checkout that fits above the keyboard.

  5. 05

    Front-end rebuild

We rebuilt the storefront mobile-first, with layout and images sized for the device requesting them.

  6. 06

    Performance optimisation

We cut payload, deferred non-essential work, and optimised the critical rendering path.

  7. 07

    Checkout simplification

We reduced form fields, added mobile payment methods, and removed steps that existed only for desktop.

  8. 08

    Launch & measurement

We released and tracked mobile conversion and speed against the pre-launch baseline.

Results.

  • 58% higher mobile conversion rate
  • 35% reduction in mobile bounce rate
  • 42% faster mobile page speed
